September is Healthy Aging Month, and we think it’s the perfect time to talk about living your best life at any age. It is possible to live a healthy life, no matter what age or stage of life.   As summer comes to a close, it’s natural to think about how you’ll spend the rest of the year. In this blog, we’ll explore some tips for living your best life that you can apply right now to end the year strong, no matter how old you are or in what setting you live.

  1. Act the age you feel. Your age doesn’t have to define you! At later stages in life, you may feel more freedom than you did in your younger years. Now is the time to act the age you feel and live life with gusto.
  2. Learn a new skill. Did you know that studies show learning a new skill helps keep your brain sharp? It doesn’t matter what it is – it could be a new computer skill, how to sew a quilt, or how to arrange flowers. Choose something that interests you, and give it a go!
  3. Stay active. It’s recommended that we aim for 10,000 steps per day or 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week. But if that doesn’t seem doable, start where you are. Any little bit of activity helps keep you healthy so choose something you enjoy and do it regularly.
  4. Get your annual checkup. Annual checkups give you and your doctor a way to track your health over time. This means that your doctor can ensure you’re up to date on your vaccines, your medications are appropriate, and that any changes in health can be promptly addressed.
  5. Express yourself. Have you ever been interested in trying a new artistic skill or craft? Participating in art can have a positive impact on your health and wellbeing, no matter what it is. So grab your brushes or some clay, and get started!
  6. Enjoy a variety of foods. Try to eat fruits and veggies with every meal! Enjoying a colorful range of produce will always enhance your health. You’ll benefit from the wide range of vitamins and minerals, and the added fiber will help keep your gut happy. Plus, it’s delicious!
